Woodcut Print on Washi Paper

As if from a long-buried dream summoned from the subconscious, Glasgow-based artist Stephen Polatchdraws inspiration from walks taken in suburban British streets. His works depict unfolding events and frozen in a whimsical moment of deeper imagination. Polatch’s curious scenes and cast of characters are a meld of overlapping references, from video games to 12th-century Italian painting. They are as much a reflection of the artist’s own mind as they are the strange array of individual influences that we each carry with us.
Stephen Polatch lives and works in Glasgow, UK. After completing his BFA at The Ruskin School of Art, Oxford in 2013, Polatch went on to complete a Postgraduate Diploma at the Royal Drawing School in London. Recent exhibitions include Clyde, Soft Opening, London (2021); Peepers, K Halstead, London (2021); A Many Voiced Argument with Life, Glasgow International/Market Gallery, Glasgow (2021); Prestwick, New Glasgow Society East, Glasgow (2021); The Amber Room II, Amber Room, London (2020); Eigenheim, Soft Opening, London (2020); Graven Images, New Glasgow Society, Glasgow (2019); and Drawings of Iasi, Iasi, Romania (2019).
