Mac McNaughton is a Scottish artist living and working in London. His work often features portraits and scenes taken from everyday life painted in evocative, unflinching detail, drawing closely upon his own experiences both past and present. From renting rooms in slum bedsits and living in poverty, to fleeting encounters in the city, he turns his gaze on moments that feel highly personal yet also familiar. At times, his work escapes into romance and fantasy, finding glamour in the everyday and the ordinary.
McNaughton studied painting at Camberwell College of Arts as a mature student after deciding to take up painting in 2015. He has had a number of artworks used by bands based in London and Glasgow including The Yummy Fur, Le Volume Courbe, The Sexual Objects, Jane Egypt of Lung Leg’s ‘Peter Parker’ and worked closely with the Glasgow collective We Can Still Picnic.
